چکیده

Elite female ballet dancers are at high-risk of bone stress injuries (BSI) due to high-levels weight-bearing exercise causing micro-cracks form in the bone. The consistently high volumes may lead a low BMI which reduces oestrogen levels by suppressing gonadotrophin axis. combination and be associated with increased remodelling. Investigating relationship between exercise, BMI, oestrogen, remodelling is crucial for developing prevention management strategies BSI. We conducted pilot study 4 weeks group elite professional controls: subjects were monitored self-reported weekly urinary metabolites (2OHE1 16OHE1) NTX, marker resorption proxy Measurements collected baseline, week 2 4. Dancers exhibited significantly higher hours per (p = 0.004), lower 0.030) than that age-matched controls. In contrast, 0.050) NTX 0.460) comparable two groups. Using as biomarker remodelling, these results suggest despite intense not undergo resulting insufficiency increase risk BSI because might accumulate faster damaged tissue could replaced. Based on findings, larger studies will designed assess effect recovery dancers, develop platform treatment including screening programmes identify risk.

Bone Quality in Female Ballet Dancers: A Possible Determinant of Bone Health

Hypotheses: Values of serum markers related to bone quality are abnormal in young female ballet dancers. Methods: In 13 elite Japanese female ballet dancers (average age, 22 years), markers related to bone quality were investigated. These included: serum homocystein (HC), a marker of increased oxidative stress; pentosidine (Pent), a marker of glycationor oxidation-induced non-enzymatic cross-li...

Physical activity, body composition and bone density in ballet dancers.

The main purpose of the present study was to examine factors that affect bone mineral density (BMD) in female ballet dancers. Training history, Ca intake, body composition, total body BMD (TBMD) and site-specific BMD, and bone mineral content were described in twenty-four female ballet dancers (mean age 22.6 (SD 4.5) years). Training history was determined by questionnaires, Ca intake by 7 d di...
